DRC is currently presided by President Joseph Kabila and he has been in office since January 17th, 2001 and has made DRC a republic.
DRC has a terrible history, telling of wars and mutinies. Overall, the country has not done all too well since Belgium left and made Congo independent, though since then, DRC has advanced from their past statuses. Some of the issues that still remain in DRC are rebellion, disease, poverty, lack of resources, food and water, and refugees fleeing into the country because of disputes in other nearby nations. Currently the death rate of DCR can be seen on page 10 on www.rescue.org. The main exports of DRC are cobalt, cooper, niobium, niobium tantalum, petroleum, industrial gems, diamonds, gold, silver, zinc, manganese, tin, uranium, coal, and timber.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is a South African nation next to Congo and above Angola. The Democratic Republic of Congo, known as DRC, became a Belgian Colony in 1908 and changed drastically through the different political and social instability. Before the colony was owned by the Belgian, it was owned by their harsh, tyrant of a king, King Leopold II, in 1865. King Leopold ruled with an iron fist and had exploited their resources of rubber and ivory. In 1908, he was removed as the King of Belgium and as the owner of Congo. Congo was then named Belgian Congo by the government of Belgium. In 1960, Congo became an independent nation, though was riddled with corruption, social injustices, and inflammations. In the 1970s, DRC was known as Zaire. Since the nation was declared independent, there have been two civil wars and is considered the world’s most dangerous conflict since WWII. The country is the third-largest country in Africa and it’s capital is Kinshasa.
